environmental impact of timber use on sites

Environmental impact of timber hoarding and how to reduce it

On average building a house can produce 1000kg of waste wood(1).  A large proportion of this waste is contributed by single use timber hoarding.  But construction companies are obliged to secure sites from unauthorized access by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.  No work is permitted to take place until a secure barrier is in place around the site.  The act states the qualities of that barrier, but not the material.   The question is what is the environmental impact of using timber hoarding and does using plastic hoarding stack...

Artfully decorated Perimeters plastic hoarding

Be considerate, Re-usable Site Hoarding is more fun, safer and better for the environment

Perimeters working with Kier delivered a few cheerful additions to the play area at Trevithick School in Camborne.  Perimeters installed its reusable hoarding across a playground and adjacent field. This turned what could have been a monotone barrier into something all together more jazzy. An imaginative frieze now decorates the site hoarding that protects the play area from the ongoing construction work. The frieze is already encouraging the tots to channel their "Messi"ness on the playground as well as in art class.  Ball marks pattern the age appropriate sized goal.  A...

Timber hoarding vs Perimeters’ hoarding

A picture is worth a 1000 words.  Timber hoarding weathers, distorts and buckles. Timber often needs repainting or having boards replaced. Perimeters' hoarding doesn't weather.  Instead it stays true throughout the life of a site. In the picture, we see a site neighbouring Perimeters' site for Steve Hoskin Groundworks  at PL2.  The laminated wood board is looking the worse for British weather after only a few months. Even after years, Perimeters' hoarding will stay true. Timber hoarding ends up in landfill But smarter appearance is only half the story.  The expense and bother...
